Garrick (Tiger-girl's leopard gecko) has never been too keen on posing for a photo. Today however, he must have been in the right mood and stayed really still for me. Here are a few pics...
The lighting is a bit strange because of the red bulb in his viv (but you get the idea).
OK... it's no secret I am not the world's keenest cook. I love to wash-up if someone else cooks. The family gets fed. What can I say. So when Smurf asked me "What does Borscht Soup taste like?" I had no idea (would you?) My obvious answer was "Why do you wannna know what Borscht Soup tastes like anyway?" And his answer was "I read about it in a book." Obviously. He's reading an adventure story called 'Alexi's Secret Mission' about a boy who smuggles Bibles in his home country of Russia. That's where the Borscht Soup comes in. This conversation blossomed into some serious excitement about a boy who was going to research the ingredients and method to make some Borscht Soup, write out a (doubled) shopping list to get what was needed and then make some. He watched countless 'You Tube' clips and cooking site clips on how to make it (who knew there would be so many!). He took notes and compiled a shopping list (doubled as I said because we generally double all things we cook as this is a hungry family of 6 we're talking about). So yesterday was the day he made some. Chef was the other cook involved.

A dollop of sour cream went on top and here's the finished soup (it's supposed to be chunky)...
...buttered Tiger bread to go with it..YUM!
I seem to have had a strange infection called 'bad-blogger-itis' or what some folks call 'nowt much to say to cyber space malaise'.
I'm still breathing.

The page 'SIMPLICITY' went live over on the site It's A Creative World where I am taking part in a year long project called 'Simple Things'. My contribution to the prompt started with a quote and a pic of our home.. embellished with 'scribble-sewing' in red...
These two flaps then open to reveal lots of pics of the family doing simple everyday things like reading, baking, playing and schooling...
If you look closely you can see lots of little blue seed beads sewn between the pics on the two open flaps.
Right then I'm off... (a few comments would be nice).
I have been using crochet trim on every single scrapbook layout I've done since New Year. I can't get enough, but I fancy a bit of a change so I've been experimenting by crocheting over wire circles to make a fun new kind of trim for my scrapbook layouts. The top two trims on the pic below are crocheted over wire, made by bending thin jewellery wire around various thicknesses of pens, then single crocheting on top (or dc USA). I went sc around the red trim twice and the large pink trim was made with 'treble' stitches.
The bottom three trims are crochet over metal washers. There's a detailed pic below...
You need to crochet all the way around the first washer, then join the second washer but only crochet around half way, join the next washer. Keep adding washers until the scrapbook trim is as long as you want, then crochet back down the length of trim towards the first washer. Super simple and hopefully will look fab on a scrapbook layout.
Over on the blog Dolly's Dreamings, the prompt for week four of her 52 in 10 year long project was about music. I'm not terribly musical so it was challenging for me to think of something I actually wanted to scrap about. At my Wedding in 1991 we had a song which was one of my favourites at the time. You don't hear it much now as it's a bit dated. I used a photo taken in Africa in 2005 to illustrate the song.
I wasn't actually that slim... for some reason the photo uploaded from the disk I got processed back then was a bit elongated. That's one of my Gran's crochet flowers on the layout & some of my own crochet trim.
I am having a blast (most of the time) having grown/growing-up kids. Three of them are mid-teens and one will become a teen this year. I used to think this phase was SO LONG AWAY but as it turns out, it crept up on me and now I parent older kids. Anyway... we had a busy Saturday. Chef started electric guitar lessons at a shop in town and within an hour Tiger-girl had a riding lesson. There was time juggling went on. Then a coupla boys went into town for a haircut and Roman had a long driving lesson with Husb. Tiger-girl took herself off to town. I had the house to myself and sat and read a scrapbook mag with a cup of tea. Tiger-girl was the last to get home. She'd bought me something. She couldn't contain her excitement as she never even got her coat off and wanted to give me the pressie. I was pleased (& was expecting a bar of choccy or a spool of ribbon or some buttons... all gifts I'd have been delighted with and the sort of thing they usually give me as a little special surprise). OK... so, I'm holding out my hands, eyes closed and she puts a teeny drawstring bag in my hands. She'd bought me a little silver bead for my bead bracelet. I was overcome and speechless... THEN... to top that, she'd got some photos of herself in the shop buying the pressie. She knows me so well. She knows I like to scrapbook stuff. She knew I'd love a photo of her buying the bead. This girl is amazing.
A teeny silver cube with 2 little hearts on each side. And a photo of it. I love her. She loves me. It was the best :)
