'Cables' remind me of Aran jumpers I wore as a child that were knitted by loving relatives (nothing shows love like a hand-knitted jumper ;)
So, today, I crocheted a cable pattern...
This pattern is called 'Olivia Cable' and came from a book I had for Christmas called 'Crochet Stitches Visual Encyclopedia' by Robyn Chachula.
This book is jam-packed full of great stitch patterns and has both written instructions and stitch diagrams. I look forward to dipping into it for more complex, textured, stitch patterns. I didn't enjoy making this swatch as much as I did yesterday's green one. I think knitted cables are 'smoother' and the repeat was quite complex, involving crossed over FPdc stitches (USA term). I'm up for some freeform crochet tomorrow ;0

Do you have a plan for all these bits you are crocheting? You are going to end up with a stack of them :D

That's a good question, Chipper! Partly I am trying out new textured patterns to see what they look like for real (as the photos in books/online don't always do a pattern justice)...maybe they'll end up in a freeform piece... But the problem with that is the very squareness of these swatches puts me off them a bit. May have to round them out a bit then add more freeform to them. I am enjoying taking some time out in the day dedicated to crochet and these little swatches have been good for that. If I was into cooking I'd say it was like trying a new recipe to see if it tastes as good as it looks in the recipe book! Thanks for commenting :)
