Here are the Shepherds...
**********************SCROLL DOWN FOR FREE PATTERN ******************
There's an old shepherd with white beard and a younger one with a shepherd's crook (both are the same height).
Here's one as a finger puppet...
The 'stable' is getting crowded now (although the shepherds and Kings were never in the stable at the same time - factoid!)
...and to get a good idea of scale...
Here's the free patterns. Please comment and link with a photo if you make the Nativity figures... it's lovely to see what others make with my free patterns (and it encourages me to make more!!)

I love love love these. When (and that's a somewhat lengthy when) I find my wool/cotton yarns and have a little time, I will do my very best for next Christmas. The Kings are my favourite. Of course. :)

I have been looking for something like this for ages, to make for a friend. She wants the figures a bit bigger, but with your pattern as a starting point, I feel encouraged to have a go at adapting it and perhaps make them my own style. Thank you so much for the boost in confidence!

Caroline you could use a bigger hook and thicker yarn. Also do a few extra rounds to make the figures taller.

Thanks so much for sharing your talent!
I have been looking for the sport weight cotton yarn, but haven't been able to find any marked that way. Can you give me a brand name? I found some mercerized cotton--is that the same thing?
Thanks for any help you can offer. I'm really anxious to begin these!

Hi Nancy,
I'm in the UK and the cotton yarn I use is called "4 ply" and the USA equivalent is always called 'sport weight'. We have 'mercerised cotton' here in the UK too but it's thinner than 4 ply. Maybe someone in the USA would know of a brand. I use PATONS 4 ply here in the UK. Try 'crochetville' or another USA site they might know USA brands better than me. hope that helps. Let me know how you get on. Also you could just try a thicker yarn and thicker hook.

These are amazing!! My grandparents collect nativity scenes. This would be a wonderful present for them. And of course I'll be making a set for myself this year too! Thank you so much for offering them for free!

Thanks so much for this pattern. I love that my kids can't destroy these. Here's how my set turned out. I also added sheep and a donkey (which I didn't get pictured).
