I've made my first 'freeform crochet' project.
It's a bag, modelled below by T-g...
The inspiration was the 'sea', 'shoreline' and 'land'... interpreted with blue/grey, then brown/beige and mixed green yarns in three bands across the bag.
Freeform crochet is like doodling with yarn. All the decisions are made as you go along. So the yarn thickness, colour, type of stitch, direction you crochet are all changed as the work goes along. These small crochet patches are called 'scrumbles'...
The crochet 'scrumbles' are then joined up into larger freefrom crochet panels. Below are the two main panels of the bag...
The photo below shows how the crochet 'scrumbles' were building up into the panel of freeform crochet...
Here's a close-up of a scrumble....
This is how the scrumble evolved...
The freeform crochet panels and scrumbles were sewn onto a bag and the gaps had to be closed.
another example...
I really enjoyed making this freeform crochet bag.
It won a competition and you can see more explanation and detail here over on the instructables site.
Thanks to everyone who voted for me :)
